Baldessari

Luciano Baldessari (Rovereto 1896 - Milan 1982) was a genial and eclectic individual, who moved between the fields of architecture, set design and painting, always abreast of the artistic and cultural innovations of his time. In 1913 he joined the futurist group founded by Fortunato Depero and graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano in 1922. He spent time in Berlin between 1923 and 1926, and then New York from 1939 until 1948; in both cities he associated with important artists, architects and intellectuals, as well as finding time for set-designing and painting. During 1928 he began working as an architect in Milan. His most important works include Bar Craja (with Luigi Figini, Gino Pollini and Fausto Melotti) and the Italcima plant in Milan (with Gio Ponti), the staging of the atrium and main stairway for the IX Triennale di Milano (in collaboration with Lucio Fontana), the Breda pavilions at the Fiera di Milano, and the Villa Letizia nursing home in Caravate as well as the adjacent chapel of Santa Lucia.
