Magnaghi, Terzaghi

Augusto Magnaghi (Milan 1914 - 1963) and Mario Terzaghi (Florence 1916 - Milan 1998) contributed with coherence and elegant professionalism to creating the new face of Milan and Italy in the post-Second World War years, staying true to their principles of rationalism. Magnaghi and Terzaghi received their degrees in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, in 1936 and 1939 respectively. While studying they worked together and became friends with Pietro Lingeri and Giuseppe Terragni, which led eventually to the formation of a professional partnership. In 1954 Magnaghi won the Compasso d’Oro for the modular kitchen he designed for Saffa. Among the more significant architectural designs the group worked on were the “Casa dei Nidi” at Fino Mornasco, the primary school at Jerago con Orago, an office building in Via San Giovanni sul Muro in Milan, the church at Villa Cagnola in Gazzada, and the INAM clinics in Laveno Mombello, Cremona and Milan. Following the premature death of Magnaghi in 1963, Terzaghi continued to work, completing the Fornaroli Hospital at Magenta and the CAMM (Consorzio Autostazione Merci Milano) in Milan.
